Sounds in French

It is essential to know French phonetics in order to speak and read like a native speaker, or at least to master the sounds so that you can make yourself understood.

Learning this is one of the fundamentals of French. We distinguish between vowel sounds, semi-vowel sounds and consonant sounds. For each sound, you will find the spelling indicated.

For example, the sound [i] can be written as i and y in French. For each sound, I invite you to listen to the sound and repeat it. The idea is to identify any difficulties you may have and, if there are any, to work on them by repeating the line of words corresponding to the sound.

In a second step, the idea is to start reading short texts to have fun practising reading in French while following the rules of phonetics. The most important thing is to enjoy yourself from the very beginning. In this regard, I recommend reading French texts that are accompanied by audio.

The audio will allow you to check your pronunciation while practising.
